Dover and District Beekeepers Association

Thursday, 22 February 2018. A super meeting last month, with over 70 attendees. Pam Hunter gave a really useful summary of the benefits of oilseed rape crops to bees. Get feeding for the rape crop is her advice - large colonies will be more productive. Pam is now our Link Trustee with the BBKA, a lucky coincidence that she was our first 2018 speaker. WOW! Definitely worth a try! .

Kent Bee-keepers Association

To collect a pound of honey a bee might have to fly a distance equivalent to twice round the world. This is likely to involve more than 10,000 flower visits on perhaps 500 foraging trips. A worker honeybee in summer lives only 6 to 8 weeks from the time she hatches as an adult bee. Before that, it takes just 3 weeks for her to develop from an egg. The KBKA now has a new website at kbka.

Friday, May 1, 2015. Road-killed short tailed shearwater on Akaroa Highway. HI all- I found a road killed short-tail shearwater today which had been freshly hit near Birdlings Flat, on the Akaroa Highway . I wonder if there has been a seabird wreck nearby on Kaitorete Spit? I understand a juvenile black-brow was found nearby, alive, earlier in the week. Anyone doen any recent beach patrols? Photo on my page Regards Peter Langlands 020515. Thursday, April 19, 2012.
